Surrogacy in Pune, Maharashtra

Surrogacy is a last option rather than a first, and Indian law makes that explicit. The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act allows it only when a woman has a medical condition that makes pregnancy impossible or dangerous, such as the absence of a womb, and requires the intending couple to obtain a certificate of that need, and a certificate of their own eligibility, from the appropriate authority before treatment begins. Only altruistic surrogacy is legal: the surrogate may not be paid beyond her medical costs and insurance. The embryo is created by IVF, so the clinic doing that work must be registered at Level 2 under the ART Act, and the surrogacy clinic must be registered under the Surrogacy Act as well.

The 3 Pune listings on this directory that name surrogacy on their own website are 1 Level 2 clinic, 1 Level 1 clinic and 1 with no level in the national registry extract. Only the Level 2 clinic is registered for the IVF stage. None holds an ART bank registration. The extract does not record surrogacy clinic registrations at all, so for any of these clinics, ask to see that certificate separately.

Ask the clinic to walk you through every legal step, which authority in Maharashtra issues each certificate, and how long the whole process usually takes. Ask how the surrogate's eligibility under the law is checked, what medical care, counselling and insurance she receives, and who pays for them. Ask who will deliver the baby and where, and how the birth certificate is issued. Take independent legal advice on the written agreement before you sign it.

Ask, too, what happens if the surrogate develops a complication, and how decisions about her care are made during the pregnancy.

This directory has no doctor recorded against these listings yet. Pune's 171 listings in this directory include many registered clinics that do not name surrogacy online, so asking a clinic you already trust is a reasonable first step.
